TIFTON —
Pamela Howell, wife of the late former City Manager Charles “Charlie” Howell, recently presented the Tifton City Council with a $1,000 check to help with the Charles Howell Academy of Public Service (CHAPS) program, which was named in honor of her late husband. The program is for individuals who have a sincere interest in Tifton’s community and want to be educated on how the local city government operates. The class is free to citizens 18 years of age and up. The course will meet every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks in the training room at the Tifton Police Department, except on the nights students attend city council meetings and workshops. The program is expected to begin in April. Applications can be e-mailed to the Tifton Police Department at raymondd@tifton.net, or dropped by the police department. Visit the city of Tifton’s website for the application. Seats are limited.

Proud of diamond accomplishments of Devils, Panthers
Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
