TIFTON —
Thomas "Carlton" Barry Sr., 73, of Tifton died March 11, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Robert Thompson and the Rev. Kevin Harris will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Larry Jones, Ronnie Jones, Steve Kelly, Nat McCalvin, John Setters and Charlie Cook will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Barry was born November 8, 1939 in Tift County and was the son of Clifton Allison Barry and Nora Cox Barry, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dot Barry, who died December of 2011. He was a retired driver for UPS and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Barry is survived by one sister, Shirley Milton of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Janet Barry of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carleen and Ricky Connor of Tifton and Sonja and Wayne Duncan of Hinesville; and five grandchildren, Zachariah Duncan, Jedediah Duncan, Isabella Connor, Hannah Barry and Sydney Barry.

“Keep calm and stop the violence,” “Save our streets” and “No more violence” were the words echoed by Eighth Street Middle School students early Tuesday morning as they stood in front of the school behind caution tape and orange cones, shouting and holding up signs as they waved at passing motorists who smiled and returned the gesture.

The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.
