TIFTON —
Mary Edna Phillips Fleming, 91, of Tifton died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the memorial chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with Dr. W. Wayne Roe officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the memorial chapel at First Baptist Church.
Born to John David Phillips and Mary Lee Hurst Phillips, both of whom preceded her in death, Mrs. Fleming was a longtime resident of Tifton and graduated from Tifton High School. She was a very good cook, who truly enjoyed preparing meals for others and volunteered both at the Tifton Soup Kitchen and Brother Charlie’s Rescue Mission. She was a devoted mother, a cherished friend and an excellent homemaker. Mrs. Fleming was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she was in the Bible Learners Sunday school class and worked on the Beacon newsletter committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Melvin Fleming, and a brother.
Survivors include her son, Tony Fleming of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Fleming and Tina and Keith Prueitt, all of Morganton, N.C.; two grandchildren, Leslie Beattie and Nicole Beattie; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Patty and Noah Caurse; and two great-great-grandchildren, Charli and Lillie Reinhardt.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, P.O. Drawer 747, Tifton, GA 31793 or the Forward in Faith Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 404 Love Ave., Tifton, GA 31794.
