TIFTON —
The Turner County Rebels led off the state tournament with a bang, defeating the Hancock Central Lady Bulldogs, 45-31 and the Terrell County Greenwaves, 78-51 in games played at Ashburn.
The Lady Rebels quickly moved out to a lead and were up 13-6 after the first quarter. Hancock Central would play them nearly evenly over the next two frames, but it was 23-15 at halftime and Turner led by nine going into the final quarter. Both teams found some offense in the fourth, but the Lady Rebels kept the advantage and put away their opposition for the 45-31 win.
Turner next plays the winner of Clinch County and Wilkinson County, a game being played tonight.
Likewise, the Rebels will have to wait until tonight to find out who their next opponent will be. If the favored team wins out, it will be another showdown between Region 2-A schools as running mate Wilcox County hosts Hancock Central in Rochelle.
Against Terrell, the Rebels found themselves in unfamiliar territory after a quarter, trailing 16-15. They turned that round in the second, outscoring the Greenwaves from Dawson, 16-5. Terrell would show life in the third, keeping it a 12-point margin, 49-37, but the Rebel offense again exploded. The fourth quarter saw Turner score 27 points and take the victory, 78-51.
Antonio Graddic had a double-double for his team, scoring 18 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Devontae Curtis contributed 16 points and Quan Hillmon had 13.
