TIFTON —
A 17-year-old male and juvenile were arrested Friday after allegedly being involved in a fight at Red Bird Mobile Home Park on Ferry Lake Road.
According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, officer Richard Varn reported Friday that he was sent to the mobile home park at approximately 3:57 p.m. He stated that upon arriving on the scene, he made contact with a 36-year-old man who was yelling and screaming that he had been beat up by several males and his bicycle was stolen.
The man described the offenders as being a young white male, a young black male and a young Hispanic male, who all took off running toward Lindsey Street.
Varn reported that he and another officer searched the area. The white male and Hispanic male were located but fled on foot. Both males were later apprehended after a brief chase. The victim identified the two subjects as his attackers. He told police that a group of seven to eight males were standing in the area of the mobile home park. He reported that he was walking and carrying his daughter’s bicycle when one of the subjects approached him and stated that he wanted the bike. He stated that he told the subject that he wasn’t taking the bike without a fight.
The man reported that the subject then took off his shirt and grabbed a tree limb off the ground and struck him in the back. He told police that upon being struck by the limb, the group began to beat him up. He reported that a black male picked up a city trash container and struck him with it. The man added that another black male with dreads jumped on the bicycle and left the scene. The others then took off after beating him up, he reported.
A juvenile was arrested and transported to the Tift County Law Enforcement Center to be taken to Eastman Regional Youth Detention Center to await a juvenile hearing. The report states that the juvenile smelled of alcoholic beverages and was given a breathalyzer test by an officer. He registered 0.13 on the test, the report states.
Also arrested was Cesar Gutierrez, 17, of Tifton. He was charged with robbery (street), simple assault and obstruction of officer, the report states.
