COLUMBUS —
Joseph Talmadge Hester passed away unexpectedly at his home in Columbus Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. Funeral services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the committal shelter at Andersonville National Cemetery. The family received friends preceding the service Friday, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., from 12 until 1:30 p.m., a funeral procession followed to Andersonville.
Born July 2, 1936 in Omega, he was a son of the late Thomas J. Hester and Nancy Busbin Hester. He was a retired United States Army veteran, where he was an Administrative Specialist, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. Among the medals he received were the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki D. Hester of Montezuma; a brother, Clayton Hester of Cleveland, Tenn; grandchildren, Crisi Hester Hall, Mark Hall, Joey Jenkins and Mandy Jenkins; and great-grandchildren, Austin Richards, Kyle Richards, Lee Richards, Seth Hall and Sophie Jenkins.
Mr. Hester was preceded in death by one sister and several brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Fla. 32256; Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250; or to a charity of one's choice.
