Ethel A. Talley, 102, of Chula votes Thursday afternoon at the old gym on the corner of Fourth Street and Chestnut Avenue with her two daughters, June Branch (left) and Sue Sirmans (right), by her side. Talley has voted every election for over 80 years. She smiled and stated, “I’ve been voting a long time.” She said it’s important to vote because it’s a privilege. Talley will turn 103 years old Jan. 22.

Downtown Farmer's Market opens Saturday

The Downtown Development Authority has announced the 2013 opening of the Downtown Tifton Farmer’s Market May 18 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market, located on the platform of the historical Tift Terminal Railway Museum, will feature the new streetscape including enhanced landscaping, new sidewalks for easy accessibility and so much more.

Tiftarea-Tattnall split
The quarterfinals series between the Tiftarea Academy Panthers and defending state Class AAA champions Tattnall Square Trojans matched up two of the top teams in the state and after two games, the battle has been a stalemate. The Trojans won the first game 4-1, while the Panthers took game two, 6-3. Game three will be today at 2 p.m.
