TIFTON —
The Tiftarea Academy Panthers fell, 40-7, to the Bulloch Academy Gators Friday night in Chula.
After falling behind 20-0 when Bulloch scored on three of their first four possessions, the Panther defense held the Gators and the offense struck back when Rob Flick and Taylor Folsom hooked up on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 16 seconds left in the half to send Tiftarea into halftime only down 20-7.
The Gator offense struck quick again in the second half as Harrison Averitt returned the opening kick 52 yards and, on the first play of the drive caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Loy Waters.
After the Panthers forced Bulloch to settle for a 34-yard field goal attempt on their next drive that sailed wide right, the Gators were able to find the end zone on their next two drives. Tiftarea drove to the Bulloch 6-yard line late in the game, but a fumble kept them from pulling any closer than 40-7.
Flick completed 19 of 32 passes for 152 yards and Ethan Mims led the rushing attack with 82 yards on 14 carries. Zach Beier led the team in receiving with 6 catches for 45 yards.
The Panthers are now 1-7 on the season and travel to Americus next Friday night to play Southland Academy at 7 p.m. Southland fell Friday to Pineland Christian, 15-14.

Proud of diamond accomplishments of Devils, Panthers
Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
