TIFTON —
Local law enforcement agencies responded to several incidents over the weekend, including a two-year-old child being bit by a dog and some burglaries.
According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, officer Dawn Tillman responded to a residence in the 1300 block of South Ridge Avenue Friday in reference to a dog bite. She reported that upon arrival, Emergency Medical Services had already left the scene transporting the injured two-year-old to Tift Regional.
She stated that she spoke to the owner of the dog, who advised that his red nose pit bull was chained up in the back yard. The man informed her that the child walked through a broken piece of fence at the edge of the property and was bitten by the dog.
The child’s mother, Tillman reported, stated that she was on the front porch of her residence when her two-year-old son followed her landlady to the neighbor’s house. The woman reported that she heard a loud commotion and saw her son being bitten by the dog. She stated that she jumped off the porch and ran to her son. She reported that she had to pry the child loose from the dog’s mouth.
Tillman reported that Animal Control arrived on scene and spoke with the owner of the dog, who advised that his dog is always chained up and also, the dog had just been given his current shots. The owner said his dog is not aggressive, but given the circumstances, he willingly gave the dog up to Animal Control, according to the report.
Tillman reported that she made contact with the injured child and his mother at the hospital. She reported that the child was upset and crying. She stated that he appeared to have a large gash on his head from approximately his right ear to the back of his head. She also reported that the child had a puncture wound on his left shoulder and scratches on the back of his neck.
The report states that the ER doctor on scene was tending to the child.
