TIFTON —
The Needy Children’s Fund is sponsoring a coat drive for underprivileged children in the Tift County School System. Donated coats can be taken to the two dry cleaners that have agreed to clean the coats free of charge.
The coat drive is underway and will continue to be collected until Dec. 14. All jackets, coats and sweaters for school age children can be taken to the cleaners and those businesses will clean the items before distribution.
School Social Workers April Holmes, Michael Norman and Octavia Conaway will distribute the coats to the schools. Last year, the participating dry cleaners were gracious enough to dry clean numerous coats and jackets that were given to families in need.
The two Tifton dry cleaners participating include: Carriage Cleaners, 2001 Tift Ave.; Carriage One Hour Cleaners, 602 Love Ave.; and Kelly’s Fashion Dry Cleaners at 115 Chesnutt Ave., 208 E. 20th St., 1310 U.S. Highway 82 W. and 101 Eighth St.
The Tift County Needy Children’s Fund is a United Way agency. Donations to the United Way contribute 90 percent of TCNCF’s funding.

Eighth Street Middle School students chant "Keep calm and stop the violence" as they hold up signs in front of the school Tuesday morning for their peace rally.
“Keep calm and stop the violence,” “Save our streets” and “No more violence” were the words echoed by Eighth Street Middle School students early Tuesday morning as they stood in front of the school behind caution tape and orange cones, shouting and holding up signs as they waved at passing motorists who smiled and returned the gesture.
