TIFTON —
Early voting has been successful in Tift County.
Tift County Elections Supervisor Jean Edwards said, as of mid-morning Thursday, there had been roughly 6,000 early voters in the county.
“We think we could be up to 7,000 by the end of the day, and maybe have 8,000 by the end of tomorrow,” Edwards said. “We have done very well.”
If the 8,000-number is reached by the time early voting closes at 5 p.m. today, that would mean over a third of Tift County’s voters would have voted early. Edwards estimated there were around 21,000 registered voters in the county.
Edwards did add that total is “pretty normal” for Tift County, indicating that early voting has been well-received in the county.
The general election is set for Tuesday. Early voting ends today at 5 p.m.
Today will end the 21 days of early voting allowed, that includes one Saturday.
“Once the early voting ends, you will have to come in Tuesday to cast your ballot,” Edwards said.

Girls basketball had long road to equality
When Georgia decided in 1945 to play a girls state basketball tournament, Macon Telegraph writer Sam Glassman was in favor, writing that the district tournaments that had always been held were just as strenuous. Days later, though, he wondered about the mental strain it was causing the players.

Southern problems...some folks got’em
I was able to take a trip down to Tampa this past weekend with my mom to see my niece in her dance recital. We didn’t get to see her dance in her recital. She kept saying she was sick, and we all kept saying, “You’ll be OK...it’s just nerves.”
