TIFTON —
Local law enforcement agencies responded to several incidents over the weekend, including second degree arson and burglaries.
According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, officer Charles McCormick reported early Saturday morning that he responded to Peterson Apartments on Timmons Drive in reference to a vehicle fire.
He reported that he observed a small fire on the passenger side of a white Chevrolet Tahoe in the driveway of the apartments. He stated that he exited his vehicle and immediately grabbed his fire extinguisher and put out the fire.
McCormick reported that the fire had melted the plastic step rail on the side of the vehicle. The fire was turned over to the Tifton-Tift County Fire Department, he reported. The owner of the vehicle informed officers that there was other damage to the vehicle that was not caused by the fire — the window visors had been broken off and the front passenger tire had been flattened.
McCormick reported that no contact was made with any suspects. He also noted that there was a strong smell of lighter fluid near the vehicle and near where the fire occurred. He reported that the firemen on scene advised that the arson investigator would be notified of the incident.
In another matter, a man who lives in the 600 block of Timmons Drive reported Friday that when he returned to his residence, he realized that someone had broken the lower window pane to the back door and made entry. He reported that several items were stolen, including two flat screen televisions, ten pairs of Nike Air Jordan shoes, 10 baseball caps and a Xbox 360 video game console. Also, the man’s roommate reported that his flat screen television, three pairs of Nike Air Jordan shoes and his laptop computer were missing.
In other unrelated cases:
• A woman reported Friday that someone unlocked the front passenger door of her vehicle by reaching through an open window (approximately three inches), while in the 400 block of West Sixth Street. She reported that the only items known missing were a Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol loaded with ball ammunition and a Blackhawk holster.
• A man reported Sunday that while inside a restaurant on West Highway 82, someone stole an iPad from his vehicle.
• A man who lives in the 400 block of West 18th Street reported Friday that someone entered his truck while it was parked in his driveway. The report states that no forced entry was found. It further states that papers were thrown around inside the truck. The man reported that his debit card and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen.
• A man reported Friday that he arrived to the Tiftarea YMCA on Westover Road to find that the concession stand building at the sports arena had been broken into and vandalized.
• A juvenile was arrested last Wednesday for second degree burglary and obstruction of officer. The report states that an officer saw the offender run in the area of Second Street after his description was given out due to an entering auto that had just occurred in the area of Connecticut Drive. After a brief chase, the juvenile was arrested.
• A man reported last Wednesday that someone forcefully broke into his store, Star Games and Electronics on Bellview Avenue, and took several cell phones and three handheld game devices.

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
