TIFTON —
In addition to being awarded full certification as a breast health center by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the Commission on Cancer (CoC) notified Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) that its cancer program has successfully completed the CoC survey process and has received a three-year Accreditation with Commendation.
TRMC met high-quality standards and received special commendation fort timely and error-free data submission; 100 percent compliance on all pathology reports; community prevention and early detection programs; cancer registry education standards met; and, continuous quality improvement goals.
Administered by the American College of Surgeons, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. Applying for and maintaining CoC accreditation is a voluntary commitment by a cancer program that ensures its patients will have access to the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate, and support patients with cancer and their families.

Steve Hyman, an officer with the Tifton Police Department, is all smiles after receiving the Tifton Sertoma Club's 2013 Service to Mankind Award, presented by Chad Alexander, past president of the club.

Proud of diamond accomplishments of Devils, Panthers
Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
