Bobby Lee Hand

TIFTON — Mr. Bobby Lee Hand, 75, of Tifton, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in Tift Regional Medical Center after a long battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Albritton - Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Daniel McEachin officiating and Murray L. Hand delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Brad McVea officiating at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today.

Pallbearers will be special friends Lee Ball Jr. and Tommy Lawhorn who spent “Tuesdays with Bobby” along with Zachary Hand, Austin Edwards, Harllee Swanson, Steve Suggs, Kyle Percival and Clinton Hogan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Weeks, James Rutherford, the Rev. Robert Sorrow, the Rev. Billy Swain, the Rev. Billy Dawson, Ronald Hand, Charles Hand, Donnie Hightower, members of his Sunday School Classes at Union Grove and Tift Ave. Churches of God along with his caregivers at Tift Health Care.

Mr. Hand was born Sept. 16, 1937 in Crossland to Edgar Byron Hand and Maggie Sumner Hand, both whom preceded him in death along with his stepmother, Annie B. Grimes Hand, his brother Edgar B. Hand Jr. and his two sisters, Lou Nell Hand Branch and Mary Joyce Hand Hogan Mainor.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Germany. Afterward his military service, he began his career in agriculture working with Coastal Plains Experiment Station and Fulwood Plant Farms. Most of his working years were spent in the automobile industry as a salesman. He retired from Budget Car Sales in 2006. Mr. Hand devoted over 40 years of service as a Sunday School teacher at Union Grove Church of God and Tift Ave. Church of God. There at these two churches he served as church clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, member of Church and Pastor’s Council and Chairman of Church and Pastor’s Council. Besides serving at his church and listening to gospel music his favorite past time was eating out with his family and friends. Late in life, he enjoyed riding his Gator ATV and spending time at the pond he had built for him and his grandchildren to fish. He was well-known for his honesty as a car salesman and his ability to be a “Preacher’s Friend.”

Survivors include his wife Anna Louise Hogan Hand of 54 years, whom he married on Aug. 8, 1958; his children Michele and Randy Dasher, Waycross, Murray L. Hand, Tifton, and Sonya and Dwayne Edwards, Holly Springs; his grandchildren, Ashley and Tabtha Dasher, Amanda and Michael Haley, Zachary Hand, Austin Edwards, and Lauren Edwards; Great-grandchildren Ryan, Haley and Hudson Dasher, along with many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
