Police shoot, kill suspect after chase in I-75

MARIETTA — A portion of Interstate 75 north of Atlanta has been reopened after police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect after a chase that ended in Cobb County, completely closing the highway to traffic for at least two hours.

The shooting happened Sunday after officers stopped the suspect's car on I-75 southbound near the North Marietta Parkway. Police say the suspect pointed a gun at officer, who then shot him.

WXIA-TV reports (http://on.11alive.com/QxpiBb) all southbound traffic was shut down for about two hours, backing up cars for about 5 miles, until police opened a single left-should lane Sunday afternoon.

Cherokee County sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker says the suspect was wanted in a Woodstock gas station robbery. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
