TIFTON —
The Tiftarea Academy Lady Panthers lost 7-1 to the Sherwood Christian Lady Eagles Tuesday afternoon. On a tough day at the plate for the Lady Panthers,
Rachel Davis led the team with two hits and Lakyn Souter and Caitlyn Albritton each had one.
Albritton scored the only run of the day for Tiftarea in the second inning when she singled to right, stole second and scored when the throw to second went into centerfield.
Senior Brooke Keen pitched all seven innings and picked up the loss, giving up six hits and striking out six.
The Lady Panthers are now 14-6 (4-1) on the season and travel to Valdosta today to take on Valwood at 3:30 with a jayvee game to follow.
In the second half of Tuesday’s varsity/B-team doubleheader, the Lady Panthers also fell to the Lady Eagles, 7-5.
Sophomore Anna Story pitched all five innings, giving up only four earned runs and striking out five.
Eighth grader Macy Strenth reached base and scored all three times at bat to lead the offense.
The B-team is now 0-1 on the season.

Steve Hyman, an officer with the Tifton Police Department, is all smiles after receiving the Tifton Sertoma Club's 2013 Service to Mankind Award, presented by Chad Alexander, past president of the club.

Proud of diamond accomplishments of Devils, Panthers
Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.
