William Earl Ellis, 84, of Brookfield died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers and the deacons of Brookfield Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.
Born in Irwin County on Oct. 7, 1927 to the late Josh Ellis and the late Allie Gertrude Stinson Ellis Lott, Mr. Ellis attended Berrien County School and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 during World War II, where he served in the South Pacific and was in Tokyo Bay when the Unconditional Surrender was signed by the Japanese. After the war, he completed barber school in Jacksonville, Fla. and worked for 52 years in the barber profession in Tift County, where he lived most of his life and owned Earl’s Barber Shop. Mr. Ellis enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his yard and was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Lott, Howard Lott and Dean Lott; and a sister, Beckie Dickens.
Survivors include his wife, Zelma Stephens Ellis of Brookfield, whom he married Aug. 18, 1948; his children, Marcia and Gilberto Marquina of Watkinsville, David and Wyleen Ellis of Statesboro and Debra and Frankie Webb of Brookfield; his brothers and sisters, Carl Ellis of Dothan, Ala., Mary Lee Stewart of Ozark, Ala., Darrell Lott of Fitzgerald and June Young of Fitzgerald; his grandchildren, Ryan Hand, Amanda McAllister, Kyle Webb, Matthew Ellis and Joel Ellis; his great-grandchildren, Caitlin Hand and Elise Hand; and many nieces and nephews.

I was able to take a trip down to Tampa this past weekend with my mom to see my niece in her dance recital.We didn’t get to see her dance in her recital. She kept saying she was sick, and we all kept saying, “You’ll be OK...it’s just nerves.”
