TIFTON —
The precision air rifle team for the Tift County Blue Devils defeated the Apalachee Wildcats of Winder in state sectional match on Wednesday by a score of 1106 to 1082 and haved advanced to compete in the state semifinals. The match against Apalachee was a home match for the Devils.
Tift finished the regular season in third place in Area 2 and matched up with Apalachee, the number four team from Area 4.
Brooke Hester, who was the top shooter for Area 2 this season, continued to shoot well shooting a 286 to be the high shooter for Tift. Hester and Hannah Rucker have consistently been shooting in the 280s for Tift this season, and we really need our number three and four shooter to give us a 275 or higher performance in each match from here on out.
Winners of semi-final matches qualify for the state finals to be held at the Poole Complex at Ft. Benning on April 13th. Brooke Hester has qualified to shoot as an individual at the match. If Tift wins one more match, they will advance to the state finals.
