TIFTON —
Regional board members of the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, will help Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce ambassadors cut the ribbon and host an open house at the association's new regional offices at 225 E. Second Street, near the Tift County Courthouse.
The public is welcome to meet the board and tour the offices at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. Out of Tifton, the South Georgia Region of the Alzheimer’s Association serves 35 counties south of Macon and Columbus, from Waycross in the east, to the Alabama line, and south to the Florida Line. The office is staffed by Director of Development Dan Phillips and Director of Programs and Services Bonnie Sayles. Volunteers are welcome and needed.
Virtually all the services of the Alzheimer’s Association are free of charge, including the 24/7 Helpline, 1-800-272-3900, and the lending library and brochures, due to fundraising efforts of the association. Regional fundraising programs include the upcoming Forget-Me-Not Golf Tournament in Albany March 11, an Unforgettable Day of Golf in Adel in May, the Dancing Stars of South Georgia this spring, and the Walks to End Alzheimer’s in Albany, Tifton and Valdosta this fall.
In addition to the Helpline, programs include support groups, educational programs, caregiver training, Medic Alert-Safe Return identification program, and caregiver time out. For more information on any of these programs, attend the open house or call the Helpline at 1-800-272-3900. This number rings in the Tifton office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also, only 14 people from South Georgia have registered to attend Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the State Capitol, Feb. 27, where hundreds from across the state come together to promote
Alzheimer’s issues among our legislators. More advocates are needed from this region. Register online at alz.org/georgia, or call the Helpline. Awareness Day participants will receive a VOICE t-shirt to wear and the day will include a photo with Gov. Nathan Deal, appointments and lunch with legislators, a Closing Ceremony on the front steps of the Capitol.
Three online training opportunities are offered for those who did not attend regional training in person: Thursday, Feb. 21, 9-11 a.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m.-12 noon.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
