It was a busy weekend for the Tiftarea Academy basketball teams as the Panthers and Lady Panthers faced off against Deerfield Windsor and Calvary.
Against Deerfield, the Lady Panthers had the lead through most of the game.
Two late free throws by Deerfield sent the game into overtime, but Tiftarea would hold on for a 55-53 win, as Katy Johnson and Rachel Thomason made crucial free throws late in the extra period.
Leading scorers were Thomason with 18, and Jarrett McWhorter, Ali Rippy and Caitlyn Albritton had 10 each.
Rippy also had 11 rebounds and three assists, while Thomason and Albritton had seven rebounds apiece.. Thomason also had three assists and three steals, while Johnson had three steals.
The Panthers were defeated 81-35. Rob Flick had 17 points and nine rebounds for Tiftarea, while Ethan Mims and Trent Hobbs had six points apiece. Hobbs also added six rebounds.
The jayvee girls won 28-11, to improve to 7-0. Leading scorers were Caroline Mann with seven, and Mary Kathryn Howard with 6. The jayvee boys fell 25-17. Leading scorers were McKinley Morehead with six, and Logan Carswell with five.
Against Calvary, the varsity Lady Panthers fell 51-50 in overtime.
Thomason led the scorers with 15. Rippy had 13, while Albritton added 10.
The varsity Panthers also lost, 52-45. Flick had 16 and Mims had 13 to lead the Tiftarea scorers in the game.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers will host Brookwood Tuesday in Chula.

Two from Tift named 1st team All-Region
The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.
