Public Notice

TIFTON — The Tift County appraisal staff will be reviewing property at the city limits of Tifton and Northwest Tifton County from north of Highway 82 to east of I-75 this week. The purpose of the property review is verification of property records. Call the assessor's office at 386-7840 for mroe information.



Benefit Fundraiser

TIFTON — A fund has been started at First Community Bank for James Harold Story Jr. “Mr. Hal,” an employee at Handi-Stop on 12th Street, who was recently diagnosed with skin cancer. For those who do not wish to visit the bank, a “funds” jar has been set up at the store.



Student Workshop

TIFTON — Proud Loving Individuals Giving a Hand to Teens will sponsor a workshop for students grades 8 through 12, “Charting Your Path High School and Beyond,” from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at the Neighborhood Service Center, 2737 South Central Ave. The purpose of this workshop is to give students tools and information to help make decisions for their future. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Refreshments and door prizes will be available. For more information call Lorenzo Williams at 386-4360.



School Council

TIFTON —Matt Wilson Elementary School Council will meet at 12:15 p.m. today in the school’s media center.



Memorial Walk

TIFTON — The second annual memorial walk in honor of Jason Cook will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Berrien High School track. Cook was killed in a car accident in September 2007. A memorial scholarship fund has been set up in his name at Bank of Alapaha. T-shirts are available with Cook’s picture on them. For more information, or to order a shirt, call 533-8159.



Clays Tournament

TIFTON — The Tiftarea Board of Realtors will hold their second annual Sporting Clays Tournament with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at Tifton Skeet and Gun Club. First flight will be at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, Coastal Plains CASA and Pregnancy Care Center. Raffle tickets will be sold at $10 each. Prizes include a Rizzini Gold Wing II 12-gauge shotgun ($1,795 value), 50” Sanyo Plasma HDTV ($1,299 value) and a $100 Wal-Mart Gift Card. Health Care Forum

TIFTON — Respectful discussions about health care costs and values will be conducted by nationally trained, neutral moderators at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 and at noon Sept. 30 in Room 101 of Bowen Hall at ABAC campus. The “civil discourse” forums are sponsored collaboratively by the Tift County Republican and Democratic parties.



Family Reunion

TIFTON — The Harrell, Hill and Oliver family reunion will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at Fulwood Park, Shelter 9. In the case of rain, the reunion will be moved to Pineview Holiness Baptist Church, 4872 Old Union Road. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish. Freedom Fund Banquet

TIFTON — The Tifton-Tift County Branch of NAACP will hold their Freedom Fund Banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Leroy Rogers Senior Center. This year’s theme is “Honoring our Past, Celebrating our Future, 100 years and Counting.” Guest speaker will be Judge Larry B. Mims. Hundred-year honorees will be Daughtry "Doc" Melton Sr., Samuel Brown, the Rev. Milton Merritt and Patricia Melton. Tickets are $15. Marker Dedication

TIFTON — A marker dedication for Confederate Soldier Pvt. William Clarence Sumner, who served with Company C 1st Georgia Infantry “Republican Blues,” will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at Oakridge Cemetery. For more information, call Faye S. Pendarvis at (863) 937-7727.

Farmers’ Market

TIFTON — The Farmers Market will continue to open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 4 to 7 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. Stop by for seasonal local produce. The market is located at the Railway Depot in downtown Tifton. Call 559-7439 for more information.



Ceramics Exhibit

TIFTON — The Atlantic Coastline Artist Guild at 119 Love Ave. is hosting a Ceramics Exhibit by Kelly King from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Individual or group appointments are possible; call Dr. Charles Styer at 382-6453 for more information.



KAC Registration

TIFTON — Kids’ Advocacy Coalition After-School Enrichment Program is now registering children for afterschool care at pre-K, primary and elementary schools in Tift County. For more information, call 382-9919.



Treats for Troops

TIFTON — Anyone interested in participating in the Treats for Troops project should bring addresses of soldiers stationed overseas to Canine Cuts in Tifton or Mary’s Florist in Nashville. A box of homemade red velvet cookies will be sent to those deployed soldiers for Christmas. Include the soldier’s estimated time of return and APO address.
