City Council

TY TY — Ty Ty City Council will meet at 7:30 tonight at Ty Ty City Hall.



20th century meeting

TIFTON — The Tifton 20th Century Library Club will meet at 3 p.m. today at the United Way Community Center on Fourth Street. The Education Department will host the meeting, which will be a new member tea. A member of the GaFWC, the group welcomes prospective members.



Lions Club

TIFTON — The Tifton Lions Club will meet at noon today at the Golden Corral for a business meeting.



Newcomers’ Club

TIFTON — The Newcomers’ Club of Tifton will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the United Way Community Center on Fourth Street. The club provides educational, social, and service activities for women new to the area to stimulate friendships and a stronger sense of community. NARFE Meeting

TIFTON — All active and retired federal employees are encouraged to meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Old Times Country Buffet on Highway 82 for a Dutch-treat luncheon and regular meeting. Call Bill Wiseman (382-4137) or Bob Hellwig (382-2778) for more information.



Driving Safety Program

TIFTON — The Leroy Rogers Senior Center is hosting the AARP Driver Safety Program from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday. AARP developed this eight-hour classroom refresher to help drivers 50 years and older to improve their skills and prevent crashes. It covers age-related physical changes, rules of the road and updates on recent changes in the law. For more information visit www.aarp.org/drive. Veterans service

ALBANY — The DAV Mobile Service Office will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Albany Harley-Davidson, 2815 Old Dawson Road, Albany, to personally provide counseling and claim filing assistance for veterans. This event is part of the nationwide Harley’s Heroes tour and is free to all veterans and members of their families.



Family Reunion

TIFTON — The Coker family reunion will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 at Fulwood Park, Shelter 9. In the case of rain, the reunion will be moved to Pineview Holiness Baptist Church, 4872 Old Union Road. Student Workshop

TIFTON — Proud Loving Individuals Giving a Hand to Teens will sponsor a workshop for students grades 8 through 12, “Charting Your Path: High School and Beyond,” from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at the Neighborhood Service Center, 2737 South Central Ave. The purpose of this workshop is to give students tools and information to help make decisions for their future. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Refreshments and door prizes will be available. For more information call Lorenzo Williams at 386-4360.



School Council

TIFTON —Matt Wilson Elementary School Council will meet at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 15 in the school’s media center.



Memorial Walk

TIFTON — The second annual memorial walk in honor of Jason Cook will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Berrien High School track. Cook was killed in a car accident in September 2007. A memorial scholarship fund has been set up in his name at Bank of Alapaha. T-shirts are available with Cook’s picture on them. For more information, or to order a shirt, call 533-8159.



Clays Tournament

TIFTON — The Tiftarea Board of Realtors will hold their second annual Sporting Clays Tournament with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at Tifton Skeet and Gun Club. First flight will be at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, Coastal Plains CASA and Pregnancy Care Center. Raffle tickets will be sold at $10 each. Prizes include a Rizzini Gold Wing II 12-gauge shotgun ($1,795 value), 50” Sanyo Plasma HDTV ($1,299 value) and a $100 Wal-Mart Gift Card.
