Property review

TIFTON — The Tift County appraisal staff will be reviewing property in the following locations through Friday of this week: northwest Tift County; west of Adams Road and Highway 125 North; north of Highway 82 and William Gibbs Road. The purpose of the property review is verification of property records and mobile home decal display. For more information, call the assessor’s office at 386-7840.



Farmer's Market

TIFTON — The Downtown Tifton Farmers' Market continues to be open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday at the train museum platform, corner of Tift and Third, next to the red caboose. Fresh produce, baked goods, preserves, soap, coffee, honey, crafts and plants are typically available. Santa’s Helpers

TIFTON — Santa’s Helpers, a United Way agency, is accepting donations of new toys, books, clothing, or money to assist with their Christmas program which has been serving children of Tift County since 1982. Donations may be made at the United Way office, 211 W. Fourth St., the Mell Baptist Association office, 4022 N. Tift Ave., The Tifton Gazette, 211 N. Tift Ave., or by mail at P.O. Box 557, Tifton, GA 31793. The program served 1,500 children in Tift County last year and needs your help to continue to serve these deserving children who otherwise might have no gifts. Ages served in the program are birth to 12 years. For more information on making a donation, you may call 382-2881 or 386-0865.



Hometown Holidays

TIFTON — Parade entry application are now being taken for the Hometown Holiday Parade. The deadline for applications is Dec. 2. The Theme is “The Spirit of Christmas.” The parade is scheduled For 5 p.m. Dec. 5 and will take the same route as last year. Call Fran Kinchen for more information at 556-7439. Food and craft vendor applications are also now being taken for The Hometown Holiday Celebration. The deadline is Nov. 23.



Boston Butts

TIFTON — ABAC Ambassadors are selling Boston Butts through Thursday. to raise money for their projects this year. Pick up will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 24. Tickets are $25 each. See any Ambassador for tickets.



Elks Meeting

TIFTON — The Tifton Elks Lodge and Auxiliary will have a regular meeting today. The ladies will have a special get-together at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7:30 p.m.



DDA Meeting

TIFTON — The Downtown Development Authority will meet at noon today at the Tifton Welcome Station.



Lions Club

TIFTON — The Lions Club will have a regular meeting at noon today at Golden Corral. Larry Riner, assistant city manager, will give the program.



School Council

TIFTON — Annie Belle Clark School Council will meet at noon today in the front office.



Citizens Police Academy

TIFTON — The graduation dinner for the 12th class of the Citizen’s Police Academy will be held at 7 tonight at the Leroy Rogers Senior Center. All past graduates and their spouses or significant others are urged to attend.



Farm Bureau

TIFTON — The Tift County Farm Bureau will host its annual meeting today at the Agricultural Service Center. To attend, call 382-1707. TCFB by-laws will be reviewed during the meeting.



Save Our Pets

TIFTON — Save Our Pets Inc. will meet at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Animal Shelter, 278 Highway 125 South. The public is encouraged to attend.



PLIGHT Banquet

TIFTON — PLIGHT Inc. will be having its 21st annual banquet at the Leroy Rogers Center at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $20. The banquet will celebrate three honorees. For more information and ticket purchases call 386-4360.



Auxiliary Meeting

TIFTON — The Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary executive board will meet at 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The general session will begin at 1 p.m. and will covber by-laws and annual orientation.



Public Forum

TIFTON — A public forum for consumers, family members, parents of public school students with developmental disabilities and interested public will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Diversified Enterprises, 249 Brumby Way. The forum will discuss existing services, gaps in services and new services needed. Local input is necessary to compile the business plan and ensure continued mental health, developmental disability, and addictive disease services in Tift County. The forum is sponsored by Valdosta State School of Nursing-Mental nursing students and The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.



GHFF meeting

NASHVILLE — The Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation will have its state meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Nashville Community Center, 102 N. Jefferson St., Nashville. The meeting will be followed by a meal and special speakers from the state to inform members and guests of upcoming issues in Georgia. Everyone interested in protecting their right to hunt and fish in Georgia is invited. For more information call Ronnie Gaskins, chairman of the board, at 445-0804.



Christmas Lighting

TY TY — The City of Ty Ty annual Christmas lighting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday behind the Holiday Market in Ty Ty. Entertainments and refreshments will be provided along with a special guest. Bring a lawn chair.



Arts and Eats

TIFTON — The second annual Arts and Eats art sale and chili sampler will be held on 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage. Local fine arts and crafts will be available for purchase. Chili and cornbread sampler is $5 a person or $10 per family and includes fixings, drink and dessert. Bring extra dollars to vote for the best chili and cornbread. Live acoustic music and kids' art activities included. Proceeds support the St. Anne's Episcopal Church food box ministry. Admission is free; donations of canned goods or cash for the ministry are appreciated.



Library Closure

TIFTON — The Tifton-Tift County Public Library will be closed for Thanksgiving from Nov. 25 to Nov. 30. The drive-through book drop will be locked during this time in order to give our employees a chance to rest and be with their families.



Kiwanis Fun Run

TIFTON — The Kiwanis Fun Walk/Run will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 5 this year. Registration is $5 for children and $10 for adults. Funds will go to benefit young children in the area. For more information visit the Web site at www.hometownholidayrun.com.



Ceramics Exhibit

TIFTON — The Atlantic Coastline Artist Guild at 119 Love Ave. is hosting a Ceramics Exhibit by Kelly King from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Individual or group appointments are possible; call Dr. Charles Styer at 382-6453 for more information.



Benefit Fundraiser

TIFTON — A fund has been started at First Community Bank for James Harold “Mr. Hal” Story Jr., an employee at Handi-Stop on 12th Street, who was recently diagnosed with skin cancer. For those who do not wish to visit the bank, a “funds” jar has been set up at the store.



Coin Club

TIFTON — The Tiftarea Coin Club meets at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month at Peace Lutheran Church, 604 Tennessee Drive. Refreshments are served from 7 until 7:30 p.m. when the meeting begins. For more information, call Bob Holifield at 229-533-9125.



KAC Registration

TIFTON — Kids’ Advocacy Coalition After-School Enrichment Program is now registering children for afterschool care at pre-K, primary and elementary schools in Tift County. For more information, call 382-9919.



Treats for Troops

TIFTON — Anyone interested in participating in the Treats for Troops project should bring addresses of soldiers stationed overseas to Canine Cuts in Tifton or Mary’s Florist in Nashville. A box of homemade red velvet cookies will be sent to those deployed soldiers for Christmas. Include the soldier’s estimated time of return and APO address. United Way Donations

TIFTON — Anyone wishing to donate to the United Way of South Central Georgia may mail their donations to P.O. Box 557, Tifton, GA 31793. For more information about the non-profit organization that helps fund 17 local community non-profit agencies, call 382-2881.
