TIFTON — Meeting

TY TY — The City of Ty Ty council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at City Hall.



Donations Needed

TIFTON — The Salvation Army needs donations of canned food items and clothing. They are also looking for volunteers. Come by The Salvation Army Service Center. at 1205 HWY 82 E. Tifton. Store hours are 10-6 Monday- Saturday.



Tift County

Land Maps

TIFTON — The Tift County land maps are still available, 1910 and 1929 at $10 each. The Georgia State Map in color dated 1885 is now available for $10 also. The earlier State Historic map showing Indian Trails and historic sites in Georgia is still available for a donation. Call Gladys Wiseman at 382-4137 to get your map. Tifton City Maps are also available at the Mormon Church Family Life Center for your viewing: 1898, 1903,1912, and 1924, compliments of Bob Gressette. Call Jim Golden at 392-3905 to set up a time to view these maps at the Mormon Church. The Tift County Heritage Book is still available for $70. The sale of these maps and the book is sponsored by the Tift County Genealogical Society. Three of these maps were donated to TCGS by Sally Atwater Carmichael, originally from Tifton, who received them from her mother, Sara Cochran Atwater, past Regent of the Tallassee Chapter NSDAR.



Heritage Books

TIFTON — The Tift County Genealogical Society has less than 70 of the Heritage Books of Tift County (1905-2003), second printing, left to sell.  They are $70 each. Donations Needed

TIFTON — The Children's Department is currently seeking donations of new or gently used LEGO® pieces in order to start a LEGO® Club this fall. Please bring donations to the Children's desk at the Tifton-Tift County Public Library at 245 Love Ave. For tax purposes, donation forms will be available upon request. Questions? Farmer’s Market

TIFTON — The Downtown Tifton Farmer’s Market is held in Downtown Tifton every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. The Downtown Farmer’s Market offers a unique family adventure where you can find a bounty of fresh, sustainably grown produce and artisan food, gourmet coffee beans, great fellowship, live entertainment and so much more. Announcement

TIFTON — Coastal Plain Area EOA, Inc. community service center is requesting donations for fans from the general public, churches, local businesses and civic organizations to distribute to needy senior citizens to assist with cooling methods during the summer months. In-kind forms are available for tax purposes. Those interested in donating contact Mary Stanley, center coordinator, at 229-382-2960.



Volunteers Needed

TIFTON — Literacy Volunteers of Tifton-Tift County needs tutors to work with adults who need basic skills instruction and GED preparation. If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of adults and their families, call 229-382-0505 and ask for Charles.



Public Notice

TIFTON — The Tift County appraisal staff will be reviewing property in the following locations during the week of Aug. 27-31. Real property, review of conservation use exemption applications and appeals county and city wide. Mobile home, working mobile home citations’ county wide. The purpose of the property review is verification of property records and mobile home decal enforcement. Call the assessor’s office at 386-7840 for more information.

Wiregrass Farmers

Market

TIFTON — Tifton's new Wiregrass Farmers Market offers homegrown vegetables, live plants, wholesome baked goods, handicrafts and more. Open every Saturday 9 a.m.-noon through October. Next to the Georgia Museum of Agriculture Country Store at 1392 Whiddon Mill Road. Kids’ garden activity every week at 10. Admission to museum not required for market. Al Anon

TIFTON — Tiftarea Al Anon family group meets at noon Tuesdays at First Presbyterian Church of Tifton. Al Anon is for those concerned with someone else’s drinking. It is a 12-step program of recovery adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.

 

Free mulch

TIFTON — The Tifton-Tift County Inert Landfill located at 601 Armour Street has FREE mulch available on a first come/first serve basis. Anyone from the public may pick-up mulch during the hours Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the address listed above. Due to an excessive amount of mulch stocked at the inert landfill, the City of Tifton, for a limited time, will offer FREE delivery of mulch on a first call/first serve basis.
