The local Tift County Pregnancy Care Center presented its annual pro-life awareness event Thursday evening at the UGA Conference Center.

After enjoying a “Dessert Extravaganza,” featuring cakes and other sweets donated by B.J. Smith, Cakes by Emily, Cakes by Audrey, The Sweet Shoppe and Dave’s Coffee, attendees then entered the theater for the main event.

In a recorded video, the Rev. Bruce Wilkinson, author of several books including “The Prayer of Jabez,” gave opening remarks.  He was followed by the featured speaker, the Rev. Don Munn.

A church pastor from Atlanta, Rev. Munn traveled to Tifton to present a message about the importance of preserving and protecting the lives of the unborn.  With a theme title, “The Great Turnaround,” he proclaimed the necessity of reversing the trend toward abortion.

“There have been more than 54 million babies aborted in the last 39 years since the United States Supreme Court upheld the right to abortion in the landmark case of  Roe v. Wade,” he stated. “If these babies had names, they would fill an 87-mile wall the same height as the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. More babies have died in abortions than the combined losses in all of our nation’s wars.”

Urging attendees to contribute to the cause, Munn stated that the calculated cost of saving one life is $1,200.

In response to the presentation, over $54,000 was donated by the 200-plus people in attendance.  The funds go directly to the mission of the local Pregnancy Care Center.

Darlene Barber, executive director of the Tifton Pregnancy Care Center, also urged everyone to see “October Baby,” a pro-life movie which started playing at the local Carmike Cinema on March 23rd.
