Pre-K teacher no longer employed after incident with special needs student

TIFTON — A Tift County teacher is no longer employed with the school system after an incident at the Tift County Pre-K Center, involving a special needs student.
According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, the parent of a special needs child at the Tift County Pre-K Center reported to an officer Sunday that she was notified the afternoon of March 17 by a school official of an incident that happened at the school that morning.

She said the incident was physical, involving teacher Amelia Stripling allegedly striking her child from behind with her knee, causing him to whip forward and fall to the ground.
Stacey Beckham, director of communications for Tift County Schools, confirmed that there was an incident that occurred at the school and that the child was not injured. She said as soon as they found out, immediate action was taken and the teacher was immediately sent home that same day.
After further investigation, Stripling is no longer employed by the local school system, and the incident has been turned over to local law enforcement.
