Diamond Devils enjoy week of Thomasville games

TIFTON — Tift County is going to be asking Thomasville for more baseball games. During a four-day period, the Blue Devils beat the Bulldogs three times — once on their own turf and twice in the Rose City.
The week began with a massive comeback in Tifton.

Going into the bottom half of the 3rd inning, the Tift County Blue Devils face a big deficit. Thomasville led 8-3 and the way was nearly halfway over.
The Devils rallied. After a single tally in the bottom of the 3rd, they posted seven runs in the 4th to take the lead and were never threatened again.
Will Pridgen blanked the Bulldogs over four innings, allowing a mere four hits and striking out five, according to the team’s official stats.
Twelve men came to the plate during the 7-run 4th, eight before Thomasville was able to record any outs.
Tyler Holmes went 4-for-4 on the evening, scoring three runs. He also walked once. Landon Parrish notched three hits and Mac Brooks, Brady Moretz, John Dorman and John Davis had two apiece. Every Blue Devil had at least one hit. Brooks joined Holmes with three runs scored.
Davis homered, the first of the season for Tift County.

The Diamond Devils raised their record to a sparkling 6-0 in 2023 after sweeping a doubleheader at Thomasville Friday, Feb. 24. The Blue Devils won 9-2 and 3-2 contests.
Tift scored 4 runs in the 1st and were up 7-1 after three frames. Dorman pitched six innings, surrendering a single earned run while striking out four.
Davis went 3-for-3 at the plate, with two runs scored. Brooks and Moretz each drove in two runs. Like Davis, Moretz and Dorman scored twice.
The nightcap featured a scoreless affair through the first four innings. The Devils went up 1-0 in the 5th. Both teams scored two in the 6th.
Ryan Whitley allowed one earned run in his five innings of work. Will Pridgen, ace fireman for 2023, earned a save with two scoreless frames.
Davis doubled in Drew Hembree in the 5th, according to Tift’s official play-by-play. Dorman and Parrish scored in the 6th, the former on a Parrish double and the latter on an error after a Brooks single.
