TIFTON — District 1 City Council member Josh Reynolds has been named vice mayor.
With the start of 2024, the council appointed Reynolds to serve in the position, as per city policies of selecting a vice mayor biennially, at their first meeting of the year Jan. 8.

Prior to the decision, mayor Julie Smith said that the vice mayor’s role would be to serve in the role of mayor in the event the actual mayor could not fulfill their duties. She chose to abstain from discussion and nomination, believing the decision should be left to the rest of the council.
Reynolds initially nominated M. Jay Hall, District 4 representative, for vice mayor, but received no second nomination. Following that, District 3 councilman Lester Cromer made the nomination for Reynolds to take the position, with Michael Franks, the newly appointed councilman for District 2, offering the second nomination.
Reynolds will serve as vice mayor until 2026, at which point a new council member will be chosen to occupy the position.
