LEESBURG — Another year, another 20 wins for the Tift County Lady Devils

The 57-19 victory over Lee County Saturday night improved Tift’s record to 20-4, the second consecutive season they have won 20 games. The news was not as good for the Blue Devils versus Region 1-6A-leading Lee. They caught the unfortunate end of a 56-27 score.

Only one game remains in region play, a makeup game at Houston County Feb. 8. Tift’s boys were to play solo at Colquitt County Tuesday night.

Tift won a 40-point victory over Lee the first time. The rematch played out similarly.

One day after notching her 1,000th point, Caitlyn Burgess personally outscored Lee, 26-19. Jimmya Cushion nearly did the same with 15 points. Jalaya Miller added 9.

They scored the first nine points Saturday, with a Cushion 3-pointer making it 17-2 at the end of the frame. Lee managed just five points to the Lady Devils’ 16 in the 2nd. At the end of the 3rd, it was 45-10, well into mercy rule territory.

Tift’s boys hung close with Lee for a half, down a mere 13-9 at the end of the 1st. They were still in striking distance at 24-16 at halftime. Lee bucketed the first 10 points of the 3rd to take command.

Te’Shawn Bryant scored 9 points, with Malachi Evans at 5 and Corey Howard and Fred White at 4 apiece.
