Blue Devils wallop Colquitt County

MOULTRIE — The Blue Devils of Tift County continued their overall dominance in their basketball rivalry with Colquitt County Tuesday, winning 63-48.

It was the 13th win of the year for the Devils against 11 losses and 36th victory over the Packers in their last 40 meetings. Only the boys teams played at Colquitt.

This one was close for only about a half-quarter.

Colquitt scored the first five points, but were down 20-6 after eight minutes. Tift scored the last 15 points in the period. McKyler Horne, Malachi Evans and Te’Shawn Bryant knocked down 3-pointers, Bryant’s to initially get them on the board.

Tift only extended their advantage in the 2nd, outscoring the Pack, 16-10. Near the end of the half, a Bryant triple and basket by Evans put them ahead 20 at 36-16.

J.J. Lamar’s 3-pointer in the 3rd apexed the lead at 45-18. Colquitt outscored Tift 11-2 the rest of the quarter but were still down 18.

The Devils had a 59-40 advantage before Colquitt’s last run.

Evans scored 14 points on the night, with Corey Howard at 10. The Devils were to close out the regular season tonight at Houston County.
