City police announces citizens’ police academy

TIFTON — The City Police Department has begun organizing a citizens’ police academy to educate interested community members on public safety proceedings.

City manager Emily Beeman announced the educational program on behalf of the police department at the conclusion of the Feb. 5 city council meeting.

She explained that the six-week program will meet every Tuesday evening beginning Feb. 20, instructing residents on a variety of topics related to police work, including traffic enforcement, ride alongs, gang awareness, handgun safety, and drug investigations.

More information can be found about the program on the City of Tifton website and their social media. Interested participants must submit an application to police chief Steve Hyman by Feb. 14.
