TIFTON — Tift County has signed on for the service delivery strategy amendment proposed by the city.

County commissioners voted unanimously to approve an amendment to their service delivery strategy, so as to include plans for housing revitalization in the city, at their Feb. 12 meeting.

Should the amendment be approved by the government of Tifton as well, this will allow the City of Tifton to pursue a Community Development Block Grant with the purpose of funding community housing developments.

The commissioners first discussed the adjustment at their previous meeting Feb. 6 at the behest of city manager Emily Beeman, who explained that the revised service delivery strategy would also help the city apply to a wider range of grant opportunities aimed at housing development and repair.

County manager Jim Carter explained during this most recent meeting, however, that the city would only be able to provide developments within their incorporated boundaries, not unincorporated areas outside the city.

Tifton City Council is expected to vote on this amendment in their upcoming meeting Feb. 19.
