TIFTON — Tifton City Council has finalized the rezoning amendments for non-emergent medical transport services and vehicles.

Council members unanimously approved the newly defined zoning classifications for the service and corresponding vehicles during their Feb. 19 meeting, allowing their placement in Residential Professional, Neighborhood Commercial, General Business, Wholesale Light Industrial, and Heavy Industrial zoning areas.

At their previous meeting, Crystal Gaillard, planning and zoning director, explained that these amendments had been proposed due to several businesses requesting clarification on where such services would be allowed to be established.

The amendments will also impose regulations on the service to better accommodate the zoning classifications any such businesses will be established in, including compliance with state licensing requirements, off-street parking, and further restrictions for Residential Professional zoned properties such as required parking on side and rear yard areas, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. required hours of operation, and wall or fence screening on all sides.
