TIFTON — The Tift County High School varsity swim and wrestling teams received high praise from the Board of Education at its March 14 meeting.

With both teams recently walking away with championship victories, the board members were happy to give them the recognition they deserved.

Coach Shawn Watson was proud to honor the students of the wrestling program, reporting that the boys team had become the Region 1 traditional and Region 1-6A dual champions and the girls team had become the Region 1-6A traditional and Area 2 champions.

While calling them to the front of the meeting room to receive an honorary certificate, Watson expressed his admiration for the athletes’ camaraderie and sense of teamwork.

Board members also recognized the varsity boys and girls swim teams, who recently defended their Region 1-6A champion titles for another year.

With these victories under their belt, the boys team has officially held the title for a decade, while the girls team has done so for 11 years, a potential first for Tift County.

Like with the wrestling teams, each swimmer was called up to the front to receive a certificate of achievement.
