TIFTON — After noting signs of improvement at the property, city council members have decided to hold off on a decision once again for the Redbird Mobile Home Park rezoning.

Mayor Julie Smith recommended a postponement of any motion of approval or denial for the rezoning request after feeling it was too soon for action, a decision seconded and carried by her fellow council members during their March 18 meeting.

Council members have discussed the potential reclassification from property owner Jay Zhang, who hoped to have the planned unit overlay on the park removed to allow tenants to make renovations to their units, since early February. Initially unreceptive to Zhang’s request due to the condition of the park, they elected to postpone the decision for a month at their Feb 19 meeting to conduct a more thorough investigation.

However, Smith noted that the mobile home park had recently begun seeing improvements, and suggested that the city’s code enforcement office continue working with Zhang to survey his future changes and hopefully leave the property in a much better position the next time the city discusses the item.

As such, the reclassification request has been postponed for sixty days, with the intention of allowing Zhang to potentially make further improvements.
