TIFTON — A new amphitheater will soon be under construction at Fulwood Park. Demolition of the outdated stage began last week, and construction of the new amphitheater is anticipated to begin the week of March 17.

This project is a result of collaboration between the City of Tifton and the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association.

“Originally, there were plans to renovate the old amphitheater, but engineers found that the stage foundation was in too poor of shape to salvage. This discovery led to the decision to demolish the old and build a completely new amphitheater,” stated Larry Lawrence, acting Tifton city manager.

The project should be substantially completed by Aug. 14, the city said in a press release, with the anticipated final punch list and close-out on Sept. 14.

Barber Contracting Company will construct the new amphitheater as they proved to be the lowest bidder.

Hillery Culpepper, Main Street manager for Downtown Tifton, added, “The City of Tifton and the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association are looking forward to the future events that will now be possible with the new amphitheater in Fulwood Park. This will bring our community together while welcoming guests and tourists to our downtown.”

The City of Tifton is continuously growing a safe and thriving community by providing progressive city services delivered with integrity and friendliness, the press release said. To learn more about the City of Tifton and the services it provides, please visit: www.tifton.net.
