Irene Gibbs Nichols



TIFTON — Irene Gibbs Nichols, 80, of Tifton, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at Beverly Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Brantley Seymour and the Rev. Wayne Driskell will officiate. Burial will follow at Turner Church Cemetery.

Bryan Walker, Eric Nichols, Josh Nichols, Wade Danner, Chris Doles and Deryck Perkins will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Nichols was born on Sept. 27, 1925, in Tift County. She was the daughter of Luther Gibbs and Lillian Garren Gibbs, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Terry Nichols.

Before retiring in 1990 from the Tift County Board of Education, Mrs. Nichols served 32 years as the lunchroom manager at Len Lastinger Primary School. She opened the lunchroom when the school was Lake Drive Elementary and served over two million meals to Tift County students. She was presented a plaque of appreciation for her many years of service at her retirement banquet. She was a lifetime resident of Tifton

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Tery and Charlotte Nichols of Tifton; a daughter and son-in-law, Marla Nichols and Freddie Walker of Tifton; a brother and sister-in-law, John F. and Vera Gibbs of Tifton; a sister, Kathleen Doles of Dublin; four grandchildren, Bryan Walker, Cheryl Danner, Eric Nichols and Josh Nichols; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Danner, Madison Danner, Alisa Walker and Nikki Walker.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



Nancy L. McLaughlin

QUITMAN — Nancy L. McLaughlin, 92, of Quitman, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakridge Cemetery. Dr. William Christman will officiate. The body will lie in state at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals until the hour of service.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born on March 19, 1913, in Sharon, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul McLaughlin. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Tifton.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



Carrie Mae Turner

TIFTON — Carrie Mae Crossley Turner, 93, of Tifton, formerly of Ty Ty, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at Tift Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley and the Rev. Larry Daughtry will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors — Tiftarea Chapel.

Richard Turner, Chris Turner, Phil Turner, Robbie Turner, Ronald Harp and Jerry White will serve as pallbearers. Eugene Turner, Tony Turner, Mike Turner, Greg Turner, Jim Turner, Michael Turner, Jason Turner, Matt Turner, Chase Turner, Timothy Jones, Daniel Pagaguia, David Pagaguia, Junior Pagaguia, Michael Smith, Matthew Smith, Stephen Harp, Josh Turner, Mitchell Turner and Jordan Turner will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Turner was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Calhoun County, Ala. She was the daughter of Gus Crossley and Ollie Mae Holley Crossley, both deceased. She was married for 65 years to Bernard Thomas (B.T.) Turner, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Clarence Turner and David Turner; one daughter, Dianne T. Green; and three grandsons, Brad Hogan, Roger Harp and Randall Harp.

Mrs. Turner had lived in Ty Ty for 52 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions, gardening and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren.

Surviving Mrs. Turner are four sons and four daughters-in-law, Wendell and Carolyn Turner of Ty Ty, who cared for her the last six years since the death of her daughter, James (Pete) and Betty Jean Turner of Enigma, Rob and Mary Turner of Tifton and Earnest and Gail Turner of Omega; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sue and J.W. Steedley of Blackshear and Betty Harp of Tifton; an estranged daughter, Louise Turner White Norris of Chula; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
