Jessica White, city clerk, explained that the city had planned on applying for as much as $1 million, specifically focused on housing rehabilitation for the south Tifton development area, and had selected Grant Specialists of Georgia to act as their administrators during the process.
This grant would target the same area as where the Community Home Investment Program grant had been implemented, and a representative from Grant Specialists of Georgia confirmed that they had already secured backing from ten owner-occupied homes in the area.
White reported that the city would adhere to all fair housing laws and had no conflicts of interest regarding the application or project.
City council opened the floor to hear from the community, but received no comments.
The grant application is due April 5. Council members will discuss the application further at their upcoming meeting March 18.
