TIFTON — Despite initial opposition, Tifton city council has withheld from a decision on the Redbird mobile home park rezoning request.
Council members elected to postpone approval or denial of the application, which would remove the planned unit overlay from the property to allow further developments, during their Feb. 19 meeting at the request of District 4 councilman M. Jay Hall.

Applicant and property owner Jay Zhang explained at the Feb. 5 meeting that the removal of the overlay would permit him and mobile home park residents to make renovations and improvements to their units. However, several council members, including Hall, were frustrated with Zhang even bringing the proposition before them, citing the poor state they had seen his park in.
District 2 councilman Michael Franks further suspected some of the units may be violating city ordinances, and was interested in conducting an investigation into the matter.
Hoping to do more research into this and other matters related to the property before coming to a decision, Hall requested the application be postponed until council could make a more well-informed decision.
Hall initially proposed tabling the item until March 18, but Wilmot proposed a called meeting be held at the beginning of the month instead.
As such, city council is expected to make a motion on the rezoning request March 4.
