ASHBURN — One teen was hospitalized and a Georgia State Patrol trooper was injured in a brawl outside of an Ashburn night club Sunday night.

Police reports from the Ashburn police departments and the Georgia State Patrol were unavailable before presstime Monday and calls to Ashburn Police Chief Ben Sumner went unreturned, but Tift Regional Medical Center officials did confirm that Trooper Cal Pipkin of the Cordele post was treated and released from that facility Sunday evening.

Trooper Jeff Grimsley confirmed Monday that Pipkin had sustained injuries to his face and eye and was headed to an eye specialist. Grimsley said that chances of full recovery were optimistic.

GSP investigators in Ashburn spent part of the day combing through the crime scene at the New Traffic Light Bar on West Madison Avenue where an unidentified number of people were arrested after fighting with each other before allegedly turning on law enforcement officials.

Ashburn police officers and GSP troopers from both the Crisp and Tift County posts assisted with the incident. More arrests could follow today as the investigation continues.
