Family tradition

“On the question of the day, my favorite Fourth of July tradition is getting together with family and friends, having a large cookout with ribs, having homemade ice cream, watermelons, playing horseshoes and watching fireworks.”
Used for something
“I’m glad they’re improving the airport. I use it all the time. Although I don’t fly, it’s a good place to go parking when the conversations on my date go dry.”
Just costs more
“This is for all those who want to keep our city and county taxes down to the level of the ‘good old days.’ You can’t and won’t live within those same limits yourself. Your car, your house, your general standard of living is better than ever before. And, yes, it costs more, because you are worth it. Well, yes, you are, and so is Tift County.”
Costing us money
“Well, I just read in the paper where the federal government spent $13.8 million defending Timothy McVeigh, and then they went ahead and electrocuted him. My problem is, they should have done it the day after the trial. And then you’ve got to stop and think about all the other people up in prison that need to be electrocuted for their crimes, costing us taxpayers money.”
Need to be there
“I hope the people in Daughtry Melton’s district are paying attention to the amount of meetings and hearings that he misses. And he is unable to comment because he was not there. Maybe next election time they’ll remember that and get somebody in there that can do the job.”
Everyone’s free
“In response to the Rant, ‘Don’t need you,’ people like yourself seem to forget this is a free country. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. With a remark like yours, I have to say what are you, communist or something?”
Going on faith
“My concern about the Tiftarea Humane Society being involved with the Tiftarea Animal Shelter is they didn’t keep books before, so how do we know that they didn’t cause us to overbuild, costing more taxpayer money for operation and for the construction of the building? No records, no documentation. We went on faith. We saw where that got us. It’s really sad that we’re doling them out again. Perhaps we’ll learn to only keep the animals that are adoptable and only for a short period of time. And make us accountable with spaying and neutering and not put the blame where it doesn’t belong.”
Get them too
“It’s my opinion that the Child Support Recovery Unit here in Tifton should go after deadbeat mothers. If fathers get behind a couple of weeks or so, they are locked up. But if mothers get behind on their payments, it’s ‘Let’s give them a few weeks, give me a call back.’ Well, weeks turn into months, months and nothing is done. It’s just not right nor fair. Deadbeat mothers should go to jail just the same. It’s supposed to work both ways. I think the justice system is failing the father in these cases.”
Don’t forget these
“This is in response to the Rant about the city council. Yeah, I’ll agree. Selling advertising is wrong, and the city should stop. But this isn’t the first time the city has done something like this. They’re also competing with private businesses in the county by selling trash and waste services. And they’re competing with local flea markets by running the downtown farmers’ market. All tax dollar-funded, and we, the citizens of Tifton, didn’t vote on it.”
