TIFTON — A trio of gunmen wanted in connection with as many as 20 armed robberies in Florida, Georgia and Alabama, including one here, have been arrested, the FBI confirmed Tuesday.
Douglas Kenneth Cross, S.T. Vaughn III and Gerald Jerome Raymond have been charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with obstructing interstate commerce by robbing hotels, stores and title pawn facilities in at least three states, documents released Tuesday confirm.
According to a signed FBI affidavit, the three are being held at two different locations. Vaughn was arrested in Raleigh, N.C., following the commission of a robbery there. According to the FBI, they found an Uzi semi-automatic machine pistol in his car.
Cross is also being held in Raleigh at the Wake County, N.C., jail. Raymond is being held at the Leon County Jail in Tallahassee, Fla.
The FBI has charged them specifically with robbing, at gunpoint, the Country Inns and Suites hotel in St. Augustine, Fla., on July 2 and the First American Cash Advance here on July 14. They’ve also charged Vaughn and Ross with robbing the All-in-One Cash Advance store in Gainesville, Fla., on Aug. 3.
The affidavit, signed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Allan Kornblum, says that after being interviewed by the FBI, Raymond admitted that he, Cross and Vaughn “robbed at least 13 hotels, convenience stores and cash advance stores” in Florida, Georgia and Alabama between April and August.
The affidavit goes on to say that Vaughn admitted involvement with Cross and Raymond in at least 20 robberies in the tri-state area.
Further charges could be pending against the three. They are being held without bond in North Carolina and Florida.
