Rhett Rainey

MACON — Rhett Rainey, 44, of Macon, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Thomson from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn.

The family may be contacted at the home of Shelly and David Wade, 101 Marcar Road in Macon.

Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Perry Funeral Home Chapel in Ashburn.

A native of Ashburn, Mr. Rainey was the son of Harold Durwood “Muley” Rainey and Patricia Burdette Rainey, both deceased.

He was a construction worker, a member of the Methodist faith and served in the U.S. Marines Corp.

Mr. Rainey is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Shelly and David Wade of Macon; two nephews, Matthew and Tyler Wade of Macon; and an uncle and aunt, Roger and Maryann Rainey of Athens.

Faye Nix

NASHVILLE — Faye Nix, 74, of Nashville, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. Ian Burgin will officiate. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Lovein Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 23, 1927, in Union County, Fla., Mrs. Nix was the daughter of Richard Glover and Donna Dyal, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin “Coot” Nix, who died in 1991.

For many years, Mrs. Nix owned and operated Nix Florist and was most recently employed with Magnolia House of Furniture. She was a member of Nashville Church of Christ.

Mrs. Nix is survived by two sons, Wilson Nix of Nashville and Wayne Nix of Darien; one sister, Marsha Carter of MacClenny, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

R D Chambless

TIFTON — R D Chambless, 79, of Tifton, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Bowen-Donaldson. The Rev. Bill Barksdale and the Rev. Billy Sumner will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Busbin, Wayman Hullett, Johnny Hullett, Bobby Chambless, Glynn Faulk, Ronnie Pattree and Larry Crowe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Busbin, John Gibbs, Charles Garren, Jerry Wishum, William Bowen Sr. and Harmon Coarsey.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born July 23, 1922, in Winfield, Ala., Mr. Chambless was the son of Oscar Chambless and Essie Smith Chambless, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

A resident of Tift County since 1953, Mr. Chambless was retired from E. P. Bowen Farms and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Tifton.

He is survived by his wife, Clytee Tesney Chambless of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Gail Chambless of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ken Watson of Tifton; two brothers, George Chambless of Tifton and Carlton Chambless of Palatka, Fla.; three sisters, Hattie McBrayer of Florida and Sarah Welch and Mary Sue Martin, both of Tifton; her grandchildren, Michelle and Bill Ryder, LaDon and Casey Chambless, Allen and Stephanie Peugh, Courtney and Allison Peugh, Tammy and Rolando Licea, Kim and Robbie Cross and Jessica Watson; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ivy J. Allen Sr.

TIFTON — Ivy J. Allen Sr., 71, of Tifton, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The Rev. Calvin Bobo will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Allen, Brian York, Ed Whitley, Michael Anderson, Bill Abney and Allen Hoover.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund.

Born July 17, 1939, in Tift County, Mr. Allen was the son of Dephford E. Allen, Lola Chelsia Bryant Allen Paul and A. L. Paul, all deceased.

A lifetime resident, he was a retired insurance agent and owner of Allen Insurance Agency. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Tifton, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Allen served in the U. S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division. He was also an avid fisherman.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 51 years, Chlouis W. Allen of Tifton; two sons, Bubba Allen of Enigma and Steve Allen of Atlanta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Michael Anderson of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Pat and Ed Whitley of Enigma; his grandchildren, Kenny and Valarie Allen, Dawn and Dale Holsembeck, Angie and Greg Saunders, Andrew and Laura Turner, Brian and Mandy York and Heather Akin; and six great-grandchildren.

Violet Burgess

TIFTON — Violet Burgess, 89, of Tifton, formerly of Bredenton, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

No local services will be held. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbiaville, Mich.

Born May 27, 1912, in Marion, Ill., Mrs. Burgess was the daughter of Ray and Bessie Winchester, both deceased.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frank Burgess of Tifton; one sister-in-law, Irma Guske of Tifton; and many nieces and nephews.

James H. Wilkerson, 86, of Adel, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Purvis Funeral Home in Adel. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cedars of Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, Fla. Survivors include one daughter, Carol Walker of Adel; three sons, Jimmy Wilkerson of Nashville, Polley Wilkerson of Talequah, Okla., and Hurbert Wilkerson of Gulf Hammock, Fla.; four stepsons, Johnny Farmer, Danny Farmer, James Farmer and Tommy Farmer, all of Tampa, Fla.; and one sister, Mararet Shavers of Suwannee, Fla. Eugene White, 89, of Lenox, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Adel. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Harrell Chapel Church, burial at Lenox Cemetery. Louise Brantley, 88, of Irwin County, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Fitzgerald Nursing Home in Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, burial at Whitley Cemetery in Irwin County. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Survivors include three sons, Travis Brantley of Fitzgerald, Charles Brantley of Ashburn and Melvin Brantley of Ocilla; three daughters, Bonnie Polomsky of Charlotte, N.C., Marvell Latham and Gail McDonald, both of Fitzgerald; one brother, Bo Dumas of Henderson, Texas. Akina L. Ramsey, 24, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Temple Church of God in Christ, burial at St. John Cemetery in Chula. Survivors include the father, Randall Ramsey of Chula; and two brothers, Boris Ramsey and Micheal Ramsey, both of Atlanta. Southview Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
