A. Loyd Poitevint

BAINBRIDGE — A. Loyd Poitevint, 85, of Bainbridge, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge, with burial to follow at Oak City Cemetery.

Mr. Poitevint was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Decatur County, the son of James Poitevint and Mary Ida Martin Poitevint. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1936 and received a B.S. in poultry science from the University of Georgia.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church, the Baracca Sunday School Class, VFW Post 4904, American Legion Post 62 and the University of Georgia President’s Club. He was chairman of the board and former president of Flint River Mills, Inc., and former chairman of the board of Southeastern Minerals, Inc.

He was past president of the Bainbridge Rotary Club and Bainbridge Country Club, and a former member of the Bainbridge Jaycees. He served on the board of directors of First Port City Bank, the Georgia Agri Business Council, the Georgia Poultry Federation and the American Feed Industry Association, where he served on the executive committee of the Nutrition Council. He was a very strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Poitevint was preceded in death by a brother, Ottis L. Poitevint.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lynn Poitevint of Bainbridge; son and daughter-in-law, Alec and Doreen Poitevint of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn P. and George Lee of Tifton; a brother, Coy H. Poitevint of Dothan, Ala.; a sister, Kennette Dupree of LaGrange; and four granddaughters, Catherine Lynn Poitevint of Washington, D.C., Margaret A. Poitevint of Athens and Mary Beth Lee and Melissa Lee, both of Tifton.

Warren Daton Stanford Sr.

CONYERS — Warren Daton Stanford Sr., 86, of Conyers, formerly of Omega, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Conyers.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Burial will follow at Salem Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born Dec. 24, 1917, in Ashburn, Mr. Stanford was the son of Charlie Stanford and Mary Annie Godfred Stanford, both deceased. He was a retired chiropractor.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Frazier Stanford of Conyers; one son, Warren Daton Stanford Jr. of Swannee; two daughters, Marsha Land of Conyers and Sandra Ruth Stanford of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Ann Reed of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
