Corrie Griner Harpe

LENOX — Corrie Griner Harpe, 91, of Lenox, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003 at her residence. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, at Lenox Baptist Church. The Rev. Lamar Harris will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Billy Green, Laddie Darden, Bob Register, Chad Sumner, Bill Daughtrey and Ronald Betts will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Albritton- Beaumont Funeral Directors’ Tiftarea Chapel. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before the service.

Born Jan. 23, 1912 in Berrien County, Mrs. Harpe was the daughter of Morgan J. Linton Griner and Abiegail Rutherford Griner, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Lloyd “Cap” Harpe, who died in 1991; two brothers, Carson Griner and David A. Griner; two sisters, Doris G. Goggans and Valda Carmichael Purvis; and one nephew.

A retired schoolteacher and homemaker, Mrs. Harpe was a lifetime member of Lenox Baptist Church and a graduate of Norman Park College. Her door was always open to the Lenox community where she had lived all of her life.

She is survived by ten nieces and nephews.

Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors’ Tiftarea Chapel is in charge of arrangements.



Wilson McDuffy Ward

TIFTON — Wilson McDuffy Ward, 84, of Tifton, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Judy White and Rev. Kenneth Smith will officiate.

James Walker, Mr. Goodwin, Charles Swain, Tommy Johnson, Pete Haman and Franklin Haman will serve as pallbearers. The grandchildren will serve as honary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born Sept. 30, 1918, Mr. Ward was one in a set of triplets born to Ruby Scofill and David Patrick Ward, both deceased. He was preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters, and an infant son.

Mr. Ward is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maggie S. Ward; two sons, Donnie and Ramona Ward of Tifton and Ray Ward of Gainesville; two daughters, Betty Jean and Floyd E. Bailey of Montgomery, Ala. and Clarice and James T. Phillips of Tifton; five grandchildren, Audie and Susan Bailey of Orlando, Fla., Dawn and Jimmy Fain of Montgomery, Ala., Kim and Kurt Seigler of Tifton, Dr. Jay and Leigh Phillips of Tifton and Mandi Ward of Tifton; six great-grandchildren, jay Fain of Montgomery, Ala., Maggie and Taylor Bailey of Orlando, Fla., Chip and Alex Seigler of Tifton, Hayden Phillips of Tifton.

Rex Giddens

ASHBURN — Rex Giddens, 54, of Ashburn, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at his residence. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at New Prospect Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A lifetime resident of Turner County, Mr. Giddens was the son of William “Bill” W. and Mae Pearl Ward Giddens, both deceased.

Mr. Giddens was a farmer and a member of New Prospect Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, April Kay Giddens and a brother, Clinton G. Giddens.

A member of the Sycamore Lodge #210 of the Hasan Temple, Mr. Giddens was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Karmen Summers Giddens of Ashburn; his children, Chad and Brittney Giddens of Fitzgerald and Ryan Giddens of Ashburn; his brothers, Roger Giddens, Randy Giddens, Riley Giddens and Garland Giddens all of Ashburn; his sisters, Rachel Giddens of Ashburn, Rowena G. Sellars of Ashburn, Betty Jean Griffith of Albany; and his grandchildren, Cyrus Rex Giddens of Fitzgerald and Brilynn Summers Giddens of Fitzgerald.

Avanell May

NASHVILLE — Avanell May, 94, of Nashville, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at Ruth Forrester Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Gaskins Cemetery. The Rev. Junior Swain and the Rev. Jim Williams will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Lovein Funeral Home.

Born July 30, 1909 in Berrien County, Mrs. May was the daughter of Lucious Gaskins and Lessie Parrish, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn May; a son, Clyde “Tinker” May; and seven brothers and sisters.

A Homemaker, Mrs. May was a member of Ruth Forrester Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. May is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth May of Lakeland, Fla., Carol and Verma Lee May of Nashville; seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
