Edward Homer Little Jr.

TIFTON — Deacon Edward Homer Little Jr., 72, of Tifton, gave up his earthly body for his spiritual tabernacle on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002.

He has left to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Bernice A. Little; five children, Debra A. Little, James E. Little, Betty H. Daniels, Melanie Nunley, Betty S. Mixon (Earl L. Mixon); eight grandchildren, Sonya Sadler (Lorenzo) , Dr. S. Vivre Mixon, Chrichet B. Mixon, Bryson Daniels, Brian Slayton, Nicole Henderson and LaSean Nunley; two great-grandchildren, Tinea Buie and Tyavasha Daniels; one great-great-grandchild, Maliek Sadler; three brothers, Johnny R. Little (Mille), Elijah Little (Katherine) and Robert Little; one sister, Mary Haywood; six brothers-in-law, David (Shirley), Luther (Martha), James (Mary), Johnny, Elijah and Ernest; five sisters-in-law, Marsena Little, Christine Woodson, Bessie Alexander, Loyce Fetter (Allen) and Mattie Lindsey (Norris); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and dedicated friends.

The Home going services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Hill Baptist Church, 602 W. 23rd St. The Rev. L. C. Solomon will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Southview Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.



Marguerite B. George

SEBASTIAN, Fla. — Marguerite Bombardier George, 79, of Sebastian, Fla., formerly of Tifton, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at her home in Sebastian, Fla.

A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, which would have been her 80th birthday, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastian.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Tifton Lions Club Eyeglass Fund, 601 Branch Court, Tifton, GA 31794.

Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Providence, R.I, Mrs. George was the daughter of the late Theophile Martel and Theresa Charland Peat. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Leodore Bombardier and Lawrence Colvin, a brother, Reginald Martel, a sister, Claire Shippee, and a great-grandchild, Destiny Bombardier.

While in Tifton, “Marge” was extremely active in the Tifton Newcomers Club and the local Soup Kitchen.

She is survived by four children, a local daughter and son-in-law and a local son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Gloria Sulkowski and George and Reen Bombardier, all of Tifton, Regina Thompson of Sebastian, Fla. and Lawrence Colvin of Manchester, Conn.; 14 grandchildren, including Frank, Ryan and Joseph Sulkowski, Nicholas and Joseph Bombardier and Jim Brown Sr.; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Donald Lema of Canterbury, Conn. and Wallace Lema of California; and one sister, Shirley Coderre of Moosup, Conn.



Leslie E. Powers

TIFTON — “Tell’em I’m going home” was the mindset of Leslie Edward Powers as he faced his last battle with cancer. He had the faith and comfort in knowing that Heaven would be his final resting place and requested that the choir sing songs of rejoicing so that his funeral would be joyful, not mournful. Powers died Friday morning, Aug. 30, 2002, at his home.

The 71-year-old retired painter and his wife, Mary “Jo” Griffis Powers, have lived in Tifton since 1994. He was an active member of the Carpenter Road Church of God and Young At Heart (YAH) Ministries. Powers enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

He was born July 28, 1931, in Rockford, Ill., to Emma Marion Singer Power Lee and Harry Leslie Power, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother.

Powers served both his country and his God. From 1949-1969, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight engineer and instructor, completing two tours of duty in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Powers was a member of the Church of God of Cleveland, Tenn., since 1976. He lived and worked in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for 13 years as a realtor and as a journeyman painter before retiring in 1990.

Powers is survived by his wife, Mary “Jo” Powers; his six children, 13 grandchildren and their families, Rebecca Ann Powers Jurgens, husband David and their children, Leslie and Brandon of Mili





lani, Hawaii; Teri Lynn Powers Draper, husband Vince, and their children, Jesse, Ariana and Gabrielle of Seattle, Wash., and Idaho; Jon and Meribeth Metheny, grandsons, Joshua and Jason of Lakeland, Fla., great-granddaughter, Destiny Metheny; Charles and Darlene Luke Embretson and their children, Heather and Allison of Idaho Falls, Idaho; William and Karen Luke Miller and their children, Amanda and Chad of Clarksville, Ark.; A. Glenn and Joyce Luke and children, Ruth and Sara and grandson, Andrew David of Boise, Idaho; and one brother, Harry Leslie Power Jr. of Goodyear, Ark.

The “Going Home Service” will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Powers’ home church, Carpenter Road Church of God in Tifton. Pastor Ronnie C. Luke will officiate and Pastor Samuel J. Davis of Bradenton, Fla., and Missionary Jerry Arrowood of Lula will assist. Interment services will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be members of the Young At Heart, Silas Spradley, Bobby Kirkland, Warner Daniel, Johnny Simmons, Grady Duckworth, Luther Walker and Stanley Harsey.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel, who is in charge of arrangements.



Monica Dawn Taylor Cressell

GUYTON — Monica Dawn Taylor Cressell, 30, of Guyton, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in Effington County.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chapel Bowen-Donaldson. The Rev. Rob Patrick will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be B. B. “Troy” Ball, Billy Brannon, Jeremy Simpson, Brent Patrick, J. L. Bryant and Eugene Walker.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born Aug. 22, 1972, in Tift County, Mrs. Cressell was the daughter of Jackie and Quinnette Bryant Taylor of Tifton.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Taylor, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Cressell was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist faith.

Along with her parents, she is survived by her husband, Robert Wayne Cressell of Guyton; two sons, Robert Emory Cressell and Charles Kyle Cressell, both of Guyton; one daughter, Emily Brooke Cressell of Guyton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Vone and Jeannine Taylor, Ed and Marie Taylor and Dale Taylor, all of Tifton; two nieces; one nephew; and her grandmother, Beulah Dixon of Tifton.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



Paul Martin Warner

ALBANY — Paul Martin Warner, 43, of Albany, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Northgate Presbyterian Church, 4401 Old Dawson Road, Albany. The Rev. Richard O. Smith will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the music program at Northgate Presbyterian Church, 4401 Dawson Road, Albany, GA 31707.

The family will receive friends at the residence of 2710 Somerset Drive, Albany.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Warner was the son of Joan Warner of Albany and the late John D. Warner. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bob Warner.

A resident of Albany since 1980 moving from Perry, Mr. Warner graduated from Perry High School and Albany Tech, majoring in computer and electronics. He was an electrician and a member of Northgate Presbyterian Church.

Along with his mother, Mr. Warner is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Randy Riner of Tifton and Mary Kay and Daniel Hilley of Leesburg; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Steve and Marcia Booher of Baxley, John and Lynda Faye Booher of Centerville, Lauron Warner of Kelso, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Michelle Warner of Hanahan, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy McFarland Weeks

MOULTRIE — Dorothy McFarland Weeks, 79, of Moultrie died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Ronald Barrett, Frank Morris and Keith Plymel officiating. Burial will be in Cobb Suncrest Memorial

Gardens. Pallbearers will be Glen Garren, Joe Weeks, Don McFarland, Lawrence Weeks, George Weeks and Ricky Hembree.

Born July 7, 1923, in Tallageda, Ala., Mrs. Weeks was the daughter of the late Agnes Arnold McFarland and William McFarland. She was retired from Harvey Hubble Diecasting and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cleveland Weeks Jr.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy F. Jones of Omega, Sherry Eilean Weeks and Gloria Dale Jenkins both of Moultrie; and five grandchildren, Frankie Hall, Rodger Hall, Mark Brackin III, Wendy Lynn Brackin and William Chad Jenkins.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral chapel.

Louise Raines Haman

ASHBURN — Louise Raines Haman, 80, of Ashburn, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Ashburn Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., at time and day to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Born in Worth County, Mrs. Haman was the daughter of James Hardy and Annie Elizabeth Davis Raines, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emmett T. Haman.

A longtime resident of Ashburn, Mrs. Haman was a counselor and teacher at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Turner County.

She is survived by one brother, Marvin Raines of Ashburn; three sisters, Eunice Helms of Ashburn, Aline Andrews of Sandersville and Milo White of Warwick; and several nieces and nephews.
