Annie Ola Turner Walea
TIFTON — Annie Ola Turner Walea, formerly of Ty Ty, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Beverly Health Care.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ty Ty Baptist Church. The Rev. Danny Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at Ty Ty Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Friday at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in Tifton.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons Dr. Tommy Lawhorne Jr., William C. Mathews Jr., Stephen Garlon Rogers, James Walea Rogers, Tom Lawhorne III and Brian C. Mathews.
Born March 1, 1908, in Turner County, Mrs. Walea was the daughter of Georgia W. Turner and Matilda Story Turner, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband Henry Harvey Walea and one daughter Gervaise W. Lawhorne.
Mrs. Walea called Ty Ty her home for over 76 years. She retired from the Ty Ty Post Office and was the oldest member of Ty Ty Baptist Church.
Mrs. Walea is survived by two daughters, Myrle Mathews of Gray and Henri Etta Rogers of Bellville; five grandchildren, Thomas Lawhorne Jr., Sylvia Mathews Rivers, William Mathews Jr., Steve Rogers and James Rogers; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Bowen Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Joyce Robinson DuBois
HAVELOCK, N.C. — Joyce Robinson DuBois, 67, of Havelock, N.C., died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at the Craven County Medical Center in NewBern, N.C., after an extensive illness.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Staunton Cemetery near Lenox with family and friends present. The Rev. Al Lewis of Sparks served as moderator and Father Alfonso Gutierrez of Tifton presented the prayer ritual. The eulogy was given by lifetime friend Paul Joiner of Lenox, who brought back vivid memories of the active, outgoing spirit of Joyce, as she was before her retiring years.
Born September 21, 1935 Mrs. DuBois was the daughter of Daniel Alvin Robinson, a merchant-farmer, and Dorothy Stutts Robinson of Cook County.
She was a retired Civil Service employee. She and her family lived many years in California before moving to North Carolina.
Mrs. DuBois is survived by her husband, Joseph A. DuBois; one son, Jim DuBois of Havelock, N.C.; her mother, Dorothy Stutts Cook of Lenox; one sister, Wesley Jo Sumner of Lenox; and her nieces, Nena Baggett of Tifton and Julie McBrayer of Lenox.
Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home of Franklin was in charge of arrangements, assisted by Boone Funeral Home of Adel.
