Patricia Joann Griffin Knowles

NASHVILLE — Patricia Joann Griffin Knowles, 60, of Nashville, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Cook County, with the Rev. Joey Harris and Rev. Phillip Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Brushy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Cook County.

Pallbearers will be W.J. Boyd, Don Jarvis, Eric Gaither, Jeff Bristol, Jody Kelly and Ronnie Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Miley, Troy Stanford, Troy Stanford Jr. and Gene Mathis.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born November 16, 1943, in Berrien County, Mrs. Knowles was the daughter of the late Arlie and Doris Evelyn Ray Griffin. She was also preceded in death by one daughter.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Knowles is survived by her husband, Allen Knowles of Nashville; three sons, Wayne Stanford of Wash., Richard Knowles of Adel and Gary Knowles of Nashville; two daughters, Diane Stone and Lisa Jones, both of Nashville; two brothers, Randall Griffin and Bobby C. Griffin, both of Berrien County; one sister, Martha Jean Cook of Berrien County; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



Dan Spradley

TIFTON — Leonard Dan Spradley, 68, of Tifton, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors Tiftarea Chapel, with Pastor Steve Luke and the Rev. Randall Gay officiating. Entombment will follow at The Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Larry Burkhead, Bobby Freeman, Clint DeWitt, Joel Griffin, Rick Carrington and J.T. Goff. Sheriff Gary Vowell and the Tift County Sheriff’s Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday night at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors Tiftarea Chapel.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of Tift Area.

Born September 30, 1935, in Tifton, Mr. Spradley was the son of Elizabeth Spradley Bishop of Tifton and the late Elijah Spradley.

He was a lifetime resident of Tift County and the owner and operator of Spradley Carpet Mart. Mr. Spradley was a member of Saving Grace Ministries, where he was a song leader and a devoted Christian. He also served in the United States Army. He enjoyed the coffee table at the Waffle King, loved his family, grandchildren and his dog, “Dixie.”

In addition to his mother, Mr. Spradley is survived by his wife, Louise Tucker Spradley of Tifton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Mike Rentz of Irwinville and Dannette Helton of Tifton; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Ted and Jerri Spradley of Lakeland, Maxie Spradley and David Bishop, both of Tifton and Charles Bishop of Fla.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Harvey Hatcher, Mae Jo and Charles Cassell, Mary Beth and Vaughn Taylor, all of Tifton and Grace and Aaron Messer of Sylacauga, Ala.; and three grandchildren, PV2, James M. Helton Jr. of the U.S. Army, Germany and Ashley Robert Helton and Bethany Elise Helton, both of Leesburg.

James W. Lightfoot Sr.

TIFTON — James Walter Lightfoot Sr., 62, of Tifton, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, at the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors Tiftarea Chapel, with the Rev. F.W. Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery with full military honors.

Employees of Target Distribution Center and members of the South Georgia Umpire Association will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 Thursday night at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors Tiftarea Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Special Olympics of Tifton or the American Cancer Society.

Born March 7, 1942 in Tift County, Mr. Lightfoot was the son of Mary Archer Lightfoot of Tifton and the late J.G. Lightfoot who died in 1969.

Mr. Lightfoot was a native of Tift County and of Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Tift County High School and the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

He was a retired United States Army Major and a veteran of 22 years of service that included a tour of duty in Vietnam and two tours in Korea. In Vietnam he was a bronze star recipient. He spent ten years as an enlisted service member in the Infantry and then attended Officer Candidate School, where he graduated as a Quartermaster officer. After military retirement, he was employed in Saudi Arabia by Vinnell Corporation and during Desert Storm, he was employed by Johnson Controls in the United Arab Emirates. His current employer was Target Distribution Center as an Operations Group Leader.

His love of sports included, over the years, umpiring softball, high school basketball, football and baseball. He was a member of the South Georgia Umpire Association.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Lightfoot is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Sheppard Lightfoot of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lauren and James W. Lightfoot Jr. of Marietta and Tony D. Lightfoot of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Marion “Foots” and Dixie Lightfoot of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Paul Hampton of Tifton and nieces and nephews, Whitney Lightfoot, Garrett Lightfoot, Gary Hampton and Jeff Hampton, all of Tifton and Paula Hathock of St. Simons Island.

John Henry Schofill Jr.

ENIGMA — John Henry Schofill Jr., 45, of Enigma, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, with the Rev. Billy Sumner and the Rev. Rowan Sirmans officiating. Burial will follow at Metts Cemetery in Alapaha.

Pallbearers will be Brian Fletcher, Greg Bell, Jamie Hancock, William Arnold, Neil Farr and Jimmy Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark James, Allen James, Donnie Davis, Tim O’Neal, Don O’Neal, Steve O’Neal and Charles Flancher.

Born Feb. 27, 1959, Mr. Schofill was the son of John Henry and Vera Mae Flancher Schofill of Tifton.

He had lived in the Tiftarea all of his life. He was employed with Schofill Appliance and was a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.

Mr. Schofill is survived by his wife, Megan Marie Schofill of Enigma; two stepsons, Kevin Smith of Enigma and Rocky Cowan of Fitzgerald; one daughter, Stevi Schofill of Alapaha; two brothers, Christopher Todd Schofill and Edsel Lee (Kelli) Schofill, both of Tifton; two sisters, Kimberly Ann Whitten and Valerie Lynn Schofill, both of Tifton, and several nieces and nephews.
