Jean Tucker Carter

NASHVILLE — Jean Tucker Carter, 72, of Nashville, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 of a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Trawick officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Manchester City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in memory of Mrs. Carter be made to the Nashville United Methodist Church.

Born July 31, 1930 in Manchester, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Walter Rogers and Blanche LaGrone Tucker. She was their eighth and youngest child and enjoyed being in plays and performing in the theatre in school.

She graduated from Manchester High School as valedictorian of her class and attended South Georgia Women’s College in Valdosta to major in speech and drama. While in Valdosta, she met and married Yancey Franklin Carter, Jr. of Ray City during his medical training at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Carter worked at Fort Gordon as an assistant to the base commander. After living in Macon and Ashburn, Dr. and Mrs. Carter settled in Nashville in 1956 to start a medical practice. Mrs. Carter was an active member of the Nashville United Methodist Church, the Sunshine Circle and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. She was also active in the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catherine Claire Franklin.

Survivors include one son, Franklin Yancey Carter, III; four daughters, Andrea Helfrich, Susan Scott, Catherine Franklin and Margaret McMillan; 12 grandchildren, PFC John Reese Franklin, Susanna Franklin, Jesse McMillan, Sarah Scott, Rebecca Scott, Carl Helfrich, Tyson McMillan, Brendan and Victoria Clayton, Daniel McMillan, Margaret Elizabeth Carter, and Yancey Franklin Carter, IV.

Lovein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Ruth Stephens McBrayer

TIFTON — Ruth Stephens McBrayer, 90, of Tifton died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Pineview Holiness Baptist Church. The Rev. Edsel Young, Rev. Richard Worth, and Rev. Eric Tyson will officiate the ceremony. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Albritton-Beaumont Chapel in Tifton.

Born Dec. 29, 1912 in Fulton County, Mrs. McBrayer was the daughter of John Wesley Stephens, Jr. and Mary Etta Peavy Stephens, both deceased.

She is survived by nine children, Annett Wilds and Frances Nalley of Crawfordville, Fla., Joyce Baker of Tallahassee, Fla., Wilma Tyson, Donna Marchant and Ronald McBrayer of Tallahassee, Fla., Robbie McBrayer and Darrell McBrayer of Monticello, Fla.; one brother, Oran Stephens of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Imogene Cooper of Covington; 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Sallie Florence Farmer Everett

DOERUN — Sallie Florence Farmer Everett, 88, of Doerun died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Tift Regional Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. Sammy Hiers officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Memorial Gardens in Lakeland, Fla. with the Rev. Loren Mercer officiating. Pallbearers will be Al Yearty, J.H. Wyatt, Jeff Everett, Paul Everett, Scott Smith, Jim Coleman, Michael Grantham, Greg Yearty and Jayme Everett.

Visitation will be tonight from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Born July 15, 1914, in Worth County, Mrs. Everett was the daughter of the late Cleola Florence Massey Farmer and Gus Small Farmer. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Henry Yearty and Walter J. Everett; stepson, Charles Everett; and two step-grandchildren, Tracy Bynum and John Everett.

Survivors include one son, Billy E. Yearty and wife Mary Edna of Soft Springs, Fla.; one daughter, Bobbie Smith and husband Wyatt of Doerun; four grandchildren, Scott Smith, Karen Grantham, Alvie L. Yearty and Creela Coleman; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Roy Everett and wife Connie and Ferrell Everett, all of Doerun; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Everett of Doerun; seven step-grandchildren, Jeff Everett, Beth Bridges, Tony Everett, Paul Everett, Trina Norman, Sherry Richter and Jayme Everett; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

The family may be contacted at the Walter Everett home, 1444 Mt. Sinai Road, Doerun.
