Emma L. Quinn

WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Emma L. Quinn, 89, of Waxahachie, originally from Tifton, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.

Born March 12, 1914, in Tifton, Mrs. Quinn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Winton Quinn, to whom she was married March 12, 1944, in Georgia; and one daughter, Jo Ann Amanda Quinn.

Mrs. Quinn is survived by a daughter, Diane Butler of Waxahachie; two grandchildren and their spouses, Ron Turbeville and his wife, Cassie, of Waxahachie and Angela Turbeville Holley and her husband, Jason, of Watauga, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Hanna Holley and Ryan Turbeville; two sisters, Edna Whittington and her husband, Jason, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ethel Cannington of Tifton; two nephews and their wives, Ray and Renee Cannington of Tifton, and Lamar and Mary Whittington of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one niece, Shirlee James of Jacksonville, Fla.

James Harold Mason Sr.

TIFTON–James Harold Mason Sr., 86, of Tifton, died Saturday, May 24, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Paul Thomas and Dr. W. Ches Smith III will officiate. The family will accept friends immediately following services until 4 p.m. Monday. The body will then be transported to Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta, for a graveside service.

Dale Pflug, Wilbur Webb, Dr. Joe Turner, Dr. John McCoy, Dr. James Kirkpatrick and Dr. Alberto Espinola will serve as pallbearers for the local service. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Kicklighter Sunday School class of the First Baptist Church.

Born in 1916 in Homer in Banks County, Mr. Mason was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Mason, both deceased.

A 1938 graduate of the University of Georgia, Mr. Mason worked with Swift and Co. for over 30 years in the livestock department as a livestock buyer.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Golden E. Mason; two sons, Dr. James H. Mason Jr., of Roswell, and Dr. Charles W. Mason of Bigfork, Mont.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the memorial fund of the First Baptist Church of Tifton.

Charles Wyman Shaw

TIFTON — Charles Wyman Shaw, 48, of Tifton, died on natural causes Friday, May 23, 2003 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors’ Tiftarea Chapel. The Rev. Randall Gay, the Rev. Joseph Crumley and the Rev. Robert Lawrence will officiate. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Mike Shaw, Tim Shaw, Terry Purvis, Rusty Purvis, Tony Spradley and David “Buddy” Wiggins will serve as pallbearers.

Born Oct. 15, 1954, in Tift County, Mr. Shaw was the son of Roland Shaw and Janette Sumner Shaw, both of Tifton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christie Leigh Shaw.

His brother, James Raymond Shaw, died after an extended illness shortly after Mr. Shaw on May 23, 2003.

He is survived by his parents and his wife, Vicki Sirmans Shaw of Tifton; one son, Jason Scott Shaw of Tifton; on daughter, Nicole “Nikki” Smith of Tifton; one brother, Gene Shaw of Chula; one sister, Lynn Purvis of Adel; two grandchildren, Chanceller Logan Smith, and Jalyn Nicole Shaw, both of Tifton; and a loving friend, Brenda Shaw, of Tifton.

James Raymond Shaw

TIFTON — James Raymond Shaw, 52, of Tifton, died Friday, May 23, 2003 in Grovetown after an extended illness.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tift Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Randall Gay and the Rev. Robert Lawrence will officiate.

Jimmy Watson, Charles Courson, Tim Shaw, Mike Shaw, Terry Purvis and Rusty Purvis will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors’ Tiftarea Chapel.

Born Feb. 24, 1951 in Tift County, Mr. Shaw was the son of Roland Shaw and Janette Sumner Shaw, both of Tifton. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Wyman Shaw, who died May 23.

He is survived by his parents; one son, William Jeremy Shaw of Enigma; one daughter, Jessica Susanne Shaw of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Gene Shaw of Chula; one sister, Lynn Purvis of Adel; and a special friend, Connie Aldridge of Enigma.

Curtis John Withers

OCILLA — Curtis John Withers, 76, of Ocilla, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Henry Bryant Sr., will officiate.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the funeral at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Tift County, Mr. Withers was the son of Julius D. Withers and Fannie E. Futch, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

A retired farmer, Mr. Withers was a member of Four Square Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette M. Withers of Ocilla; one daughter, Angela Nasworthy of Vienna; four sisters, Sarah Ledford, Betty Jean Harper, Delores Stone and Juanita Tawzer, all of Tifton; one grandchild, Mickel L. Withers; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel S. Withers and Hope Chastity Withers.

David L. Yeary

TIFTON — David L. Yeary, 66, of Tifton, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at his residence.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Fred Evers will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of services. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Tift Regional Hospital Auxiliary in Mr. Yeary’s name.

Born April 27, 1937, in Galveston, Texas, Mr. Yeary was the son of David Jackson Yeary and Rebecca Grace Yeary, both deceased.

Mr. Yeary was a member of the American Cancer Society, the Optimist Club and Northside Baptist Church in Tifton.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Yeary of Tifton; one son, David Yeary of Athens; five grandchildren, Jessica Cason, Allison Yeary, Mary Beth Yeary, Kayt Yeary and Kathy Yeary; and three great-grandchildren, Nichols Yeary, Harlee Cason and Blake Cason.
